We were given a reading week this week, and all students decided to go onto campus anyway to do some more independent study work - getting some of our essays and portfolio work done while also finishing up on some special effects practical work. Thankfully I didn't need to do anything more on my special effects practical work, so I decided to do some portfolio work and do a 60's mod look on fellow student Katie.

I was very inspired by this image of Dorit Kemsley and this Barbie type hairstyle with the high pony, combed over fringe and flicked out ends. Following this inspiration, I decided to try and replicate that and do also do a 60's twiggy inspired makeup to go along with it.
I firstly sectioned the side part fringe, folowed athis down the ear before clipping out the way from the rest of the hair. I then split the hair in half with the upper half being pulled into a high pony. Following this I then took that first section at the front and laid it across the forehead slightly creating that swoop fringe similar to the inspiration image. I then pinned those ends under the ponytail at the back of the head. Then curling the ends of the top pony tail and the bottom half of the hair that I left down with a straightener slightly curling the ends of the hair.
Moving onto the makeup, I firstly started out by applying a even base application of foundation before adding numerous cream products for concealer and contour before using a traditional liquid foundation to blend these all together. I set that through with a pressed power in the highlight sections of the face, and a small amount of loose power on the contour areas before going in bronzer and contour powers to strengthen these areas. I used a light 'flamingo' pink eyeshadow and used that as powder blush before then veiling powder over that to dull down the harshness of the pigment. I then used a brow soap to stick the brow hairs up in shape before using cream eyeshadow bases to carve out the brow.
I originally wanted to do more of a modern twist with this black eye look blending a pencil out with a black shadow and adding glitter but I decided against that half way through the process of mapping out the eye. I started out by sketching the eye with a black eyeliner pencil with the eye open to ensure that the shape was correct. Following this, I used a bright white eyeshadow onto the eyelid inside - keeping it true to the 60's makeup look. I used a white gel white eyeliner painting that into the waterline to give that harsh 60's look before then using a black gel eyeliner and following that line underneath that and on the top lash line.
Now moving onto the lips, I lined with a pink nude shade before then using a coral pink lipstick on the lips. I finished off the look with mascara and a small simple lash before then getting the model into costume and taking photos. I really enjoyed this look as it had the period accuracy that I need to tick off my range while also having some weight to the look rather than something more simple like other period looks.
