Today we started out by looking at unit 2 as the formative deadline was looming only a couple weeks away. My tutor asked us all where we were at and after doing these weekly blog posts, I was quite confident with my journal logs so far. I also have currently got some notes on my phone where I have done more in depth planing into what I’m doing for my presentation as well as bullet pointing all the things I have done from September till now like getting features on NYX’s website, getting noticed by Scott barnes, getting more into video creation and social media and many more things. On this note as well I have commented on the books I have bought, including my newest edition of the Val Garland book; VALIDATED! I recently got this at the weekend and I also plan to use this as inspiration for some of my Unit 31 project. Specifically the Roman Empire look doing Egyptian style eyeliner, ensuring to be super graphic with my lines. Val is known for her liner work and has an entire section and chapter in her book dedicated to this.
Moving onto the afternoon, last week as you can see in my last blog post I did actually plan my Egyptian eye look and this week I had planned to actually complete and finish the look. I was super excited to this full look and start to close out my Unit 31 project but was equally disappointed that I could not do this look on a model or have access to better wigs and a costume. Seeing as about 70% of my looks planned for this project have been done at home I would like to think I have done a decent job overcoming the obstacle that has been the national lockdown and done well to actually complete my looks at home with my limited resources. As far as the look went, I had decided to use a self tanner to make my skin more golden tan, similar to what they would have had in Egypt during that time period and made sure to use a slightly darker foundation to match that false tan colour. I think that the eye makeup went fairly decently, I discussed this more in depth in my works evaluation but I do think that the green malachite shadow looked better than the supposed emerald shimmer pencil which ended up coming off more blue than green unfortunately. Other than that, I feel like the look went very successful. As mentioned earlier I have done these looks during lockdown with limited resources and so the wig is not up to the standard that I would have wanted or used so that does take away from the look but I think the look does look better with that rather than without it.
