Week 15 Reflection - HNC

This weeks session is just like the last in my opinion; I am really struggling to keep focus with this online learning. Especially when we are in a highly vocational practice, it is very hard to produce that high quality of work that we usually do with our own home resources.

Onto what we actually did today is this: we looked at our tracking document again and mainly focused on ensuring that people’s work was handed in, marked and given back. Seeing as I had submitted all of my current work on time in the first semester this did not really apply to me. With this as well my work was marked and given back to me so I really did not have much to do for this part of the session. I am happy to say that I achieved a distinction in both my Unit 1 and Unit 25. However am less proud to say that I got a merit for my Unit 22. As grand of an achievement this is; I always strive for the best and when I had my first 2 assignments graded and given back I was ecstatic, then the more levelling grade of a merit did disappoint me. After reading over my feedback I can fully see where I dropped the marks and did not achieve the distinction marks and complete what the mark scheme was asking from me. I think as well this was to do with the fact that this essay (Unit 22) was based around a live production in which we would talk about our real experience in the theatre and retell our accounts of this. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic: we did not have the opportunity to work in a theatre, and as I personally have only worked on school productions I felt that was my setback for this essay.

Onto the afternoon session we were almost left to our own devices while we watched a interview with Delemar and Daniel & Sue who worked on “the queens gambit”. As I hadn’t watched the show, I did not really connect with this interview, but hearing about working on set and the other famous work that Daniel had done (like the Star Wars films) It was quite fun to watch. While this was going on I felt like I was wasting time and really wanted to get my

hands dirty and do practical. As I hadn’t really planned or

got a certain look to do for my Unit 31 period looks, I had decided to do a look I had been on my to do list for years now. This was the hair and makeup from the Judas music video by Lady Gaga. I am a huge fan of gaga

and this makeup look has inspired me for years. During this album era Val Garland was one of the key makeup artists who worked with Gaga at the time, she applied and created the idea of the Born this Way cover with the horns and cheekbone appliances on the face as well as the bleached brow and the graphic eyeliner.

As Judas is possibly my favourite song of the album (if not of all her discography) I decided to re-create one of her looks. This had some intricate eyeliner work and some what of a double brow I am going to call it. I started out by doing my skin prep, followed by my usual brow cover routine. From here I then colour corrected and painted a thick base of foundation to cover my skin pigmentation and create that flawless feminine skin texture. From here I started on the eye work: firstly doing a thin wing shape with some eyeliner, then sketching in the bottom 2 lines. This makeup has 3 lines of liner which are parallel from each other at the tip - so this was a challenge for me. After completing this I decided to sketch out the eyebrows with a black eyeshadow on an angled brush, making sure to elevate them and keep them thin: following the original image and makeup by Val. After completing these I bronzer up the face and lined my lips. From here I then put on a wig cap and got out my platinum blonde wig with outfit and accessories. I decided to get all these other things done before completing the lip as the lipstick I planned to use, transfers to other items very well and I did not want to have red patches on my platinum wig.

Anyway after completing this lip, and was in the full look I really did feel the fantasy. I am happy to say that this look has one of the best brow coverings I have ever done, and also is my most liked photo on my makeup Instagram ( @oliver.helm.makeup if you don’t follow it )

But yes the images of this look are below, I am so happy with this look and it’s just so amazing to also have my followers and friends love the look as well!
