Week 22 Reflection - HNC

Unfortunately today we did not have a theory session and also had a guest speaker planned for the afternoon; this all however worked out I'm my favour. From last weeks facial hair practice, this week I had planned and decided to finally wrap up my practical looks to then submit my work finally next week! Term 2 is finally coming to a close, I am mainly excited about this as after 12th April, makeup artists can work on models again so this is something I cannot wait for. It is just a shame that our period work all had to be completed for the 1st April. Moving on from that, In my own time I had prepared my human hair wig, setting it in 26mm rollers and using my DIY wig oven (cardboard box with a hole in it ahah). The only downside

to this is that the wig did not set after using the wig oven for 20 minutes. Because of this I then decided to just brush out all of the curls I had did and slowly just blow dry the wig till it was completely dry. I then looked at the images that I took of when I put in the rollers and then used a curling wand to curl the hair up before then pinning the curls to let them cool down. I did this all around the head before then letting them cool and brushing the curls out. I think that the overall final look of the wig was the look that I wanted. It did however take longer than I wanted or expected however I am glad that I took this opportunity to try something, see it not work, and come up with an alternative method to get a solution. After a quick Spritz of hairspray the wig was ready for application.

Moving onto doing the makeup now, I did my usual skincare prep, using the embryolisse lait-crème concentré moisturiser which doubles up as a makeup primer so this worked greatly for this look. I then used my RCMA VK18 palette to do the ageing makeup - I looked to Tanya Noor’s masterclass demo that we had with college a couple weeks ago for inspiration for this look. I mainly followed her steps and what techniques she described and used during her demo. I then used eyeshadows to deepen some of those lines that I had created. As I explored in last weeks blog post, I did decide to use crepe hair to create facial hair for this look. Using the same application techniques using the correct step by step process from the Wigs Up North help sheet; I felt like it came out really well. When working on yourself in what us not a true mirror it is hard to apply, cut and style the beard hair so that is something I definitely struggled with. I think using limited resources also attributed to how thin the beard looked at angles. Overall however I think that the look came out great! I was so blown away by the transformation once the look was completed with the wig placed on the head, it did somewhat read more modern because of the shirt I had used for my costume however being in a national lockdown I did the best I could with my resources. Below is the images of the final look.
