Week 24 Reflection - HNC

Moving onto the third and final semester of my HNC course, seems like only yesterday I started this journey into university studies. Today we had a visit from the EE and so the day was a little more disjointed and disrupted from the usual ‘theory in the morning and practical in the afternoon’. Today we started by going into the salon and having a chat with course leader Karen where she set out the run of the day. We had the first hour on our own so we just re-familirise ourself with the salon space after not being back in properly since before Christmas and just made sure that all work was handed in from Semester 2. I personally worked on my Unit 2 essay a little more as that was the only piece of work I had outstanding. I asked my peers on their thoughts on some of the marking criteria as i was unsure on what it was asking; they helped me and so we were set to do some sort of theory work in the morning. At 10:30 we then had a little meeting with the EE ourselves - He wanted to ask us a couple questions about the course and basically make sure that everything was running smoothly. Once that was done we started to plan what we wanted to do in the afternoon and so we set up to do some makeup looks as we do not have anything to work towards. Once we came back from lunch we were presented with the mark scheme for Unit 27 - Costume Construction. This was given to us to look over briefly and get to know it before official delivery next week in session. Thankfully this brief was quite easy to understand and i did not have any questions so I made some notes before then carrying on with the intended practical. A large chunk of the afternoon was taken up by being a model for my peers before then doing a sort of speedy soft glam look on my peer. I wanted to use some of the airbrush paints that I had recently bought and brush up on my airbrush skills as I want to do more prom and bridal makeups in my own time. This made the base process much faster as I did not need to mess around blending or setting as the formulation of the foundation dries super quickly and creates a perfect base for makeup. From here I used a lighter shade for slight highlighting before then finishing off the base makeup with some bronzer and blush. The client did not want too much makeup and so I ensured that the application was very minimal. Moving onto the eyes, I made sure to again not apply too much product but went in with some soft brown shades (mixing some warm and cool shades to make a neutral) before then using a brown pencil liner to add a small winged liner. I then applied mascara and finished off the eye area by brushing some soap through the brows and adding some brow powder. Moving onto lips now I used a darker liner than the general lip colour to add some contrast but still kept the look very beige and neutral. Below is the overall look that I did - although it was a simple look I think it is a good bit of variety for my portfolio and a good look to show more natural makeup skills compared to some of my other more intense looks.
