This week at college was our last week with our theory tutor as they needed to go over to a different site to IV work. Because of this we tried to mop up any issues with had with unit 2 essay, presentation, unit 27 essay and anything else theory related. It is a shame and a worry that we will not have that theory input for the last section of the year however I think I will pull through and do fine. I then took some time to try and finish some of my essay work and finalise my timeline and CV for unit 2 as I did not submit that essay on time before half term.
Into the afternoon session now I started learning how to make wefts using the sticks and thread, unfortunately I hadn’t put a nail onto my left hand stick and so this made it a lot harder to weave and set up the sticks. With the help of my practical tutor I was able to sort out and set up the sticks and at stated to learn how to make extensions. My plan is to hopefully practice with this cheaper Afro-Caribbean hair that college had bought in and master the technique and skill before then using some human hair that I got in my sticks kit and make some human hair extensions which I will then be able to keep and use within my human hair wig that I have borrowed from college. I originally planned to practice my knotting some more and actually use that human hair to knot into the back of the cap as it had gone a bit bald after much use, however at the end of my course I would not have been able to keep the wig so I thought it would be better to actually make extensions which I can keep. I used some resources that Rotherham college/north notts had manufactured and I made sure to read the book that I bought being: “a practical guide to wig making and wig dressing” by Melanie Bouvet. I have mentioned this book numerous times throughout my blog posts but I do think that it is an excellent book that includes all step by steps and tutorials.
Later on into the practical session I also then brought in a wig which I had sort of butchered and needed help fixing. I had attempted to put in layers after doing a large cut however I had forgotten how to do them after not doing a layered cut since 2019. Anne drew onto the mirror a diagram which helped me greatly in re-learning how to do a layered cut; she then did a demo on one section and I then followed her instruction and cut the rest of the wig. After this I then used some of the larger flocked rollers and decided to do do a bouncy curl set onto the wig, unfortunately colleges Steamer had gone missing and so I had to wait until I was home to steam it and so when I steamed and dried it the curls came out amazing and you could then see the cut in all it’s glory.
