I will start off by addressing that there was not a blog post last week and that is because I was modelling for my fellow student and friend Kate for Her World Skills competition entry. Because it was a 50% body art application along with bald cap, prosthetic pieces and costume this was a full day job and ended up taking over 8 hours to complete! It was an amazing outcome, please click the link here to see her work.
Now onto this week. we had found out quite late the night before that marketing was coming in to take some photographs of us working - because of this our usual theory in the morning, practical in the afternoon was thrown out the window and was rearranged so that we had practical in the morning and theory in the afternoon. I had decided to do a more random makeup application on fellow student Katie; I had a smokey purple and blue look saved on my inspiration page for a while now and as I couldn't think of anything else, I decided to do that look. Katie was freshly tanned and had this lovely sun-kissed glow to her skin, not to mention Her skin was in great condition for makeup application so I was able to use my RCMA VK18 foundation palette which I had not had the opportunity to use as it is very thin coverage and would not work on more problematic skin. I started out with eyes, mapping out the shape with pink and purple shapes before going in with deeper purples and blacks. I really did like the eye look for this as I had just the right amount of black to add the depth but not look overpowering. I also then paired it with a shimmery blue shade which looked absolutely gorgeous next to the purple tones and also worked so well with Katies tan. For the skin I decided to go really light handed as I often go too heavy with foundation and always regret it afterwards, as mentioned earlier I went in with the light-medium coverage foundation palette and also used it for cream contour and concealer. Again, leaving it super thin coverage for that really healthy glow skin effect. I then set that with a translucent powder before then bronzing and adding some powder blush to enhance the cheeks. From here I then brushed the brows with a little bit of clear brow gel and added lashes to the look. I am so happy with the outcome and am proud that the photos of this look are going to be used to represent the department and college as a whole.
Moving onto the afternoon now, I mainly wanted to just carry on and get on with my costume design as I wanted to get majority of the butterflies just on at this point. I am hoping to get the entire dress finished and handed in by next Thursday and hopefully do a makeup and hair look to go with it as well. Compared to my last blog post, at this point I had done my draping work and cut out my pattens and was ready to cut out all of my final fabric and start to sew it altogether. Within the last 2 weeks, I have now cut my fabric, sewn it all together, put in a zip, finalised my darts, overlocked the edge of the dress, cut my butterflies and stuck about 70% of them onto the dress at this point. The only thing that I need to do from this point on is to finish the butterflies on the back of the dress, make my 3D butterflies and stick them on the front of the dress before then finalising the dress as a whole and creating my look next week! I am over the moon with how well this project as gone (touch wood) and cannot wait to see the finished result.
Please see below the video of my current progress on the garment.
