Hypothesis
After being given the initial stimulus 'The Changing Environment' by the awarding body, we then were given free reign as to where we wanted to go with the project. over half of my time studying for my degree has been taken over by COVID with the numerous legislation changes and assessments from home; I felt it was interesting and important to highlight the immense loss that the pandemic had caused on those working or studying to work within the Hair and Make-up Industry.
Research Proposal
After finding my main research question to go from, I started to explore the topic to get a feel for what had already been explored and what gaps there were with the research findings to see where me and my project could fit. A real influence of feelings and hardship felt of those actually working on the ground of these industries was lost and so that was my aim. To focus on the feelings of the workers within the industry and focus less on the financial loss of the tourism aspect of theatre and social settings.
Data Collection
From here, I then decided my methods of data collection. This was decided in the format of a more information questionnaire form which could be sent off to mass people to gain statistics and metrics before then supporting this fact with in-person interviews with industry specialists. I wanted to really capture the feelings of those working within the industry and I found that through my data collection - the same theme kept appearing throughout my findings.
Explore Findings
While exploring the answers from both my questionnaire and interviews - it was apparent that there has been lasting effects placed upon the industry and its workers over these last 2 years. It was now my time to discover and highlight trends within the data, make assumptions and blend this with the initial research found within my literature review conducted during my Research Proposal. From here; I now needed to construct my thesis argument and document the thoughts and feelings of Hair and Media Make-up artists around the country.
End of Year Presentation
As our final task before completing our degree, we were asked to display our work for the external examiner as well as future applicants, employers and schools.
